The Mephisto Waltz
Myles Clarkson (Alan Alda) is a music journalist former career as a concert pianist came to an end when his debut concert received undeservedly poor reviews. He is befriended by Duncan Ely, a famous classical pianist (Curt Jürgens) who is dying. Ely introduces Clarkson to the sophisticated world of the rich and idle that Clarkson was denied. Unbeknownst to Clarkson. Ely is a Satanist who is preparing to switch souls with Miles, so that he can be young again and continue to play piano.
Marta, freshly returned to show business after the birth of her child and a sabbatical, appears in one scene with one line. It's not much, but it's her first appearance after returning from a hiatus. Clarkson has been invited to a social gathering at Ely's mansion, and the camera pans around the table showing the various guests in sophisticated yet meaningless conversations that blend into each other as Myles is slowly seduced into Ely's lifestyle.
