Marta Kristen Sacrifices Beauty for
Art in Walt Disney's 'Savage Sam'
Pretty 18-year-old Marta Kristen sacrifices beauty for
art in her role as Lizbeth Searcy, a frontier youngster who
is captured by renegade Apaches, in Walt Disney's feature
motion picture, "Savage Sam."
A blonde, lissome beauty from Oslo, Norway and Detroit,
Michigan, Marta dons a shapeless, drab, pioneer dress for her
part in the Disney action picture.
In "Savage Sam" Marta is whisked away by a band of
horse-stealing Indians on the rampage and driven on horse-
back halfway across the state of Texas. Marta's wardrobe
consists of one skirt, one torn skirt, one blouse, one ripped
blouse, one slightly worn pair of Mary Janes -- 1860 period.
low-heeled shoes with a strap over the ankle -- a pair of long,
grey, cotton stockings, and one entire costume completely
soaked.
"In this picture," says the lovely young actress. "my
acting had better he good, because no one will mistake me for
a glamorous beauty queen."
In color by Technicolor, Walt Disney's feature motion pic-
ture, "Savage Sam," stars Brian Keith, Tommy Kirk, Kevin
Corcoran, Dewey Martin, Miss Kristen and Jeff York. Norman
Tokar directed the screenplay by Fred Gipson and William
Tunberg based on Gipson's best-selling novel. Bill Anderson
co-produced with Walt Disney. Buena Vista releases.
