It allowed Marta to stand waist deep in the ocean and still appear to have mermaidlike fish scales without actually wearing the cumbersome full tail costume as shown in right picture from May 1965 Screen Stories article.

As preparation for the release of Beach Blanket Bingo in 1965, Marta did a photoshoot to promote her role as Lorelei the Mermaid. The first of these b&w shots was reproduced in the pressbook sent to the theater owners to promote the film. The rest were released as press packet inserts.
